I don’t get why folks are hating on this track? She sounds incredible on it, don’t ever get it twisted, Miss Aguilera is one of the best singers of our generation. She’s been working it out for over 10 years and of course, new artists have come through – but that’s ok? I never understood when people act like there isn’t enough room for everyone? It’s ok to like GaGa AND Rihanna AND Christina AND Beyonce – you don’t have to choose.

…Great performance.

P.s I think I’d have a lot more respect if the person wearing this t-shirt actually had a hit in the past 5 years, no?

American Music Awards 2008 Performances by Speeakz

KanYe West, Rihanna, Alicia Keys, Beyonce, Christina Aguilera, Ne-Yo, P!nk and Leona Lewis (amougst others) hit the American Music Awards last night and came through with some pretty serious performances.

KanYe West – “Heartless”

You cannot fault the man with his performances. He gives his all every single time. I still don’t love or hate 808’s but I really am enjoying the debate that everyone seems to be having about the album. This is what music is all about, right? It’s about experimentation, it’s about conversation and it’s of course, about creativity (with stimulates all of the above) so for that reason alone, I love the album. But generally, I’m still figuring it out/finding out what I really, really think about it < which is dope.

Before you hit the other performances, check out Ye’s acceptance speech on winning “Best Rap/Hip Hop Album” for Graduation:

[redlasso id=”a74340d0-1b1c-4e74-83d5-9e4176009971″]

LOL. It’s funny, but he’s right…no?

Beyonce – “Single Ladies”

No one can touch Beyonce. Her live performances are just too much. I honestly do not understand how she jumps around the way she does when performing “Single Ladies” and yet still manages to deliever a flawless vocal. It just doesn’t make sense. Shes dope. Her new album…eh, not so much. I can’t say I’m feelin’ it too tough – which sucks.

Rihanna – “Rehab”

Eh. Ri-Ri’s vocals were not tight. I wasn’t really feelin’ the performance (sorry stans). I’m usually a big supporter of this young ladies, not because she has the best voice in the world, but because she’s crazy successful and is working with what she has. But nah, this isn’t the best live performance, especially when following Beyonce.

Alicia Keys – “Superwoman”

Ah man. THAT’S why I love Alicia Keys so, so, so much. A true musician if ever there was one. An R&B/Soul singer bringing out one of the best female rappers of our time with one of the best female African American soprano’s on stage together? Amazing. Alicia Keys, Queen Latifah and Kathleen Battle. Killed it.

Ne-Yo – “Miss Independent” / “Closer”

Ne-Yo did his thing. Year of the Gentleman is one of my favourite R&B albums of 08. He’s definitely doing his thing and this performance proves he can do it 100% live too. Actually one of my fav’ performances of the night.

Leona Lewis – “Better in Time”

Granted, I hate this song, Leona Lewis’ voice cannot be f*cked with. Standard. I’m stupidly proud of this lady. She’s had an incredible year and rightfully so. And er…She’s a Brit performing on the American Music Awards? That’s huge! We all know she isn’t exactly the most charismatic person in the world, but with a voice like that – eh, does that really matter?  I think Lewis’ will find herself in the coming years…She’s like 23! But yea, I really hate this song lol.

Pink – “Sober”

I’m always impressed with Pink’s live performances. No one really is doing what she does and no one really sounds like her. I’m feelin’ this tune. “Sober” is the second single following her US and UK number one “So What” – good choice me thinks.

Christina Aguilera – “Beautiful” / “Keeps Getting Better” / “Gennie in a Bottle” / “Dirrty” / “Aint No Other Man” / “Fighter”

Wow. Christina actually packed a decade of hits into one performance! Haha! That’s pretty cool, I guess? I enjoyed the performance but I kinda think she’s lost that something ‘special’ we saw with the Strippedalbum. Maybe that’s just because we haven’t heard anything new from in a minute? Her last album sucked.

Mariah Carey – “I Stay In Love”

Honestly, I just don’t see why MC bothers anymore. Firstly, this song sucks ass. Secondly, why doesn’t she MOVE? Thirdly, sharing the stage with the likes of Beyonce, Leona Lewis, Pink etc makes you wonder if a Ms. Carey-Cannon performance is really relevant? It’s crazy to say that, but let’s be real, she really cant compete (musically, performance-wise or vocally (sh*t!?)) with any of the females who performed last night. Of course, you can never take away her achievements. The woman ruled the 90’s and has broken all records, but eh…I’m done with this chick. Deep right?

WOW. The American Music Awards did their thing this year. That’s a whole list of A-List performers, all at the top of their game right now. I’m very impressed.

Peace, Love & AMA’s

Chart Wars… by Speeakz

Dunno about you, but I stopped paying attention to the [UK] charts a long, long time ago. I remember back in the day I used to know where every track was in the top 10, but these days it’s all meaningless, so who cares right?

…Well things just got a bit interesting. Beyonce, Leona Lewis, Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears will be releasing their brand new singles on November 3rd! A HMV spokeswoman reveals:

We haven’t had a heavyweight chart battle like this for a while. It’s wide open but you have to fancy Britney, perhaps just ahead of Leona.

Hmmm. I gotta say, this is interesting. They’re all major recording artists, but my money is on O.G Britney! Firstly, the tune [“Womanizer] is serious (it is!] and secondly, everyone is looking forward to the big comeback and therefore will be more inclined to buy the single. Beyonce will of course do well with “If I Were a Boy/Single Ladies”, but competing with Leona Lewis [“Forgive Me”] on her home turf – hmmm, I think Lewis will beat her to the number 2 spot actually!

Either way, it’s good to see a chart battle – we don’t get many these days!

You thoughts…?

MTV Video Music Awards 2008 Performances: by Speeakz

Aiight, this is gonna be a rush rush ting coz I gotta get ready for my day job (LOL!), but check out the performances from last night VMA’s (airing on MTV UK tonight @ 9pm!)…

Britney Spears Opening

Rihanna – “Disturbia”

Lil’ Wayne Medley [Feat Leona Lewis & T-Pain]

Pink – “So What”

T.I – “Whatever You Like” / “Live Your Life” [Feat Rihanna]

Christina Aguilera – “Genie In A Bottle” / “Keep Gettin’ Better”

KanYe West – “LoveLock Down”

I ain’t got time right now to comment on the performances, but I will do in a bit! You know I got my opinions, but more importantly what are YOUR thoughts? You happy with the performances or disappointed? Speak on it ya’ll!

Update:I gotta say, I was ooooverly disappointed with this years VMA performances! Nothing really stood out! While it was great to see Britney back to her normal self, what the hell was that intro about? So lame! Rihanna’s performance was “ok” even though by the looks of it, it was gonna be explosive – didn’t really delivers in the end. Minus Leona Lewis, Lil’ Wayne’s performance was again “ok”, but was very proud Lewis was up there doing her thing beside him! That’s a big look! Pink’s performance was probably one of my favourites. I don’t love the song (yet) but definitely enjoyed her explosive performance (she’s hot!). Wasn’t very moved by T.I either actually! I was really expecting big things from Christina Aguilera, but was pissed off that she mimed most of the way through. I wanted a lil’ more “Genie” and a lil less – whatever that new tune is called! But of course, performance of the night goes to Ye! He delivered a well needed breathe of fresh air! That tune is BIG! Can’t wait to hear/see it at the London leg of his Glow In The Dark tour! Booooi!

So yea, generally disappointed but am about to watch the entire show on MTV at 9pm to see it properly and to watch that fool (Russel Brand) being the twat that he is!

Christina Aguilera – “Keeps Getting Better” [NEW Track] by Speeakz

Weird coincidence, just mentioned Christina was performing her new single “Keeps Getting Better” at the MTV VMA’s and the song just premiered!

Christina Aguilera – “Keeps Getting Better” [Stream]

Hmmm…Well, it’s definitely different. Aguilera has said that while her last album was a throwback, her new offering will be looking to the future. This definitely explains what she was saying, it’s very…different? I’m not entirely sure what I think of it just yet – but I remember thinking this when I first heard (and saw) “Dirrty”, so maybe it will grow on me? She’s got such a dope voice though!

What you saying about it? Love it or hate it?
