Yesterday Questlove of the legendary Roots crew sat down with Billboard for an indepth Q&A – peep part 1 up top and then parts 2-5 after the jump. Also, peep the last video where he gives one lucky person a chance to win a signed drumhead.

As a maaaaaaasssshoooosive Roots fan and of course, Questlove fan, I’m about to press play on this myself – so, can’t comment too tough on what he talks about, but you know who this is? This guy is always mad interesting to listen to. Enjoy.

Peace, Love & Questlove

Billboard has just released their annual top ‘music money makers’  list and man, there are some staggering figures bouncing around! Before you read on – think about your bank balance for a second…Now read:

1. Madonna: $242,176,466
2. Bon Jovi: $157,177,766
3. Bruce Springsteen: $156,327,964
4. The Police: $109,976,894
5. Celine Dion: $99,171,237
6. Kenny Chesney: $90,823,990
7. Neil Diamond: $82,174,000
8. Rascall Flatts: $63,522,160
9. Jonas Brothers: $62,638,814
10. Coldplay: $62,175,555
11. The Eagles: $61,132,213
12. Lil Wayne: $57,441,334
13. AC/DC: $56,505,296
14. Michael Buble: $50,257,364
15. Miley Cyrus: $48,920,806
16. Taylor Swift: $45,588,730
17. Journey: $44,787,328
18. Billy Joel: $44,581,010
19. Mary J. Blige: $43,472,850
20. Kanye West: $42,552,402

Sorrrrrrry?!?! Honestly, cannot even grasp those figures. The list is compiled by combining artists’ revenue from concert tickets, albums and digital downloads.

$242,176,466? Are you kidding me? Madonna earned $242,176,466 in one year? Just bonkers! Her “Sticky & Sweet” tour is about to take it’s second trip around the world, her latest dates sold out in minutes (AGAIN!). Craziness. It’s strange that only Lil’ Wayne and KanYe West represent Hip Hop in that list – with most of Wayne’s fortune coming from his massively successful Tha Carter III and Ye’ from his worldwide Glow in the Darktour. Oh and big up to to Mary J. Blige – boi?

It’s no secret that nowadays, with albums sales on continuous downturn, that the big bucks are in touring. Madonna, Celine Dion, Billy Joel and Neil Diamond are examples of this. But yo, Miley Cyrus? The Jonas Brothers? I swear they’re all under 18? It’s just not right! LOL.

But yea, take another look at those numbers coz I can’t stop!

Billboard Hot 100 Chart 50th Anniversary by Speeakz

In celebration of Billboard’s 50th anniversary, they have compiled a number of definitive list’s including of the “Hot 100’s Top 100 Artists”, based on all charting titles (singles) from August 1958 through July 2008.

All of the lists are quite impressive/interesting but the one that caught my eye comes from the “Hit 100’s Top 100 Artist’s” list! Just check the top 20! I’m sure like me, you’ll be super shocked that Janet Jackson came higher up than her brother Michael Jackson and er…Mariah Carey beat BOTH of them as well as Whitney Houston!! It gets more interesting, check it out:

  1. The Beatles
  2. Madonna
  3. Elton John
  4. Elvis Presley
  5. Stevie Wonder
  6. Mariah Carey
  7. Janet Jackson
  8. Michael Jackson
  9. Whitney Houston
  10. The Rolling Stones
  11. Paul McCartney/Wings
  12. Bee Gee’s
  13. Chicago
  14. The Supremes
  15. Daryl Hall & John Oates
  16. Prince
  17. Rod Stewart
  18. Olivia Newton-John
  19. Aretha Franklin
  20. Marvin Gaye

Tell me that isn’t an interesting list! Boi!!! Like I said, I was most surprised with the Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston positions – the rest made sense really. Amazing that Madonna is number 2 though! Make sure you go check out the rest of the list!

The other lists are equally as interesting. Head over to Billboard’s official site and see for yourself. I found the “All Time Top R&B/Hip Hop Songs”, “Most No. 2 Hits Without Reaching No. 1 By Artist” & “One-Hit Wonders”

“Untitled” Debuts #1 by Speeakz

Yup! As expected Mr Nassir Jones snatched the #1 spot from Weezythis week with his album “Untitled”. Nas’ 5th #1 album sold around 187k in it’s first week, which is good – but not great? Considering “Hip Hop Is Dead” sold upwards of 350k in it’s first week. It’s pretty strange, coz not only is “Untitled” far better than “Hip Hop Is Dead” (in my opinion) but with all the controversy surrounding the album and it’s title [and subsequent title change], I would have assumed it would  debut with better numbers?

Having said that selling 187,000 copies in its first week and having the album head straight into the #1 spot is never a bad thing and I’m overly happy with that, in any case! This album deserves it maayne!

…But sadly and as per usual Hip Hop did not fair too well over on this side of the Atlantic. “Untitled” debuted at #23. That’s pretty shitty. But we know the deal, Hip Hop don’t chart over here man. It’s all about guitar bands and pop groups. PFFFFFT!

Peace, Love & Nas
